What is it about camping that we love so much?
I'm really happy I like it now. I grew up in the mountains, and camping was very common, even on those very snowy winters (weird, I know). But since I wasn't really encouraged by my parents to have contact with nature, I never really liked the uncomfortable side of camping. Because, let's be real for a moment: camping is fun and all, but getting used to leaving the comfort of your home is a big deal, especially if you're not used to it. If you camp often, then there's no problem. But the first few times, it can get a bit weird not showering for three days straight. But if you think about it, that's the beauty of camping. Letting go of “what we have to do”, of how we do things daily, and to start a new life outdoors.
Starting a fire at night and sleeping under the stars, with all the noises you hear from nature, is a magical experience. I truly think that there's a side of us, a more primitive and hidden one, that is very much in tune with nature, so going camping isn't that unnatural and feels good. Can you remember how you feel when you come home after a camping trip? Maybe it's peace and quiet, feeling content and fulfilled. At least, that's for me, and it makes every uncomfortable part worth it.
